Denial screens

When a player can't join, show them a message that tells them why and what to do next.

What you can customize

Gatekeeper supports fully customizable denial screens with colors, formatting, placeholders, and Bedrock-specific text. Each status chooses which screen its players see.

Use the Screen Configurator

Gatekeeper Screen Configurator

You don't have to edit the screen config by hand. Build a screen visually, copy the generated configuration, and paste it into your config.

Open the Configurator
  1. Open the Gatekeeper Screen Configurator.
  2. Create or edit a screen and preview how it looks.
  3. Copy the generated configuration.
  4. Paste it into your Gatekeeper messages configuration.
  5. Apply it without a restart:
/gatekeeper reload

Screens live in config/gatekeeper/messages.json. See Configuration.

Bedrock players

Bedrock clients can show different text than Java clients, so screens support Bedrock-specific text. Players on either edition see the right version.

Tell people what to do next. A good denial screen answers two questions: why can't I join, and how do I fix it. For example, point neutral players to your application form or Discord.
